Janet is a partner in the Real Estate Group of Schiff Hardin LLP, a law firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, where she has practiced since November 1980. Her current practice is concentrated in real estate transactions and development projects. She represents clients throughout the United States in their transactions involving the acquisition, sale and financing of real estate projects, in rezonings, annexations and development or construction contracts for commercial and residential developments; and in lease and ground lease negotiations.
Janet has served as an arbitrator of real estate lease disputes through the American Arbitration Association. She is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), CREW Chicago (the Chicago affiliate of NNCREW, a network of over 5500 executive level women in all professionals supporting the commercial real estate industry), the International Association of Attorneys and Executives in Corporate Real Estate (AECRE) and a number of bar associations. She also serves on the Advisory Committee to the Center for Real Estate Law of The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where she has taught Commercial Real Estate Transactions as an adjunct professor in the school's LLM Program.
Janet has authored a number of articles published in professional journals, including a Chapter entitled "Landlord's Duties and Liabilities" in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education Manual on Commercial Landlord Tenant Practice. She has also spoken to professional organizations on many different topics of interest to real estate lawyers and other professionals
She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting in 1974 and her Juris Doctor in 1980 from the University of Iowa.
