| Karen Hobbs | ||
| Karen Hobbs is the First Deputy Commissioner for the City of Chicago Department of Environment, a role she assumed in February, 2006. As First Deputy Commissioner, she oversees the day-to-day department operations, which includes permitting and enforcement of industrial and commercial facilities; brownfi elds redevelopment; renewable energy; sustainable business and natural resources. Karen also led development of the City’s Climate Change Action Plan and oversees its implementation. Prior to joining the City, Karen was the Research Director for the Center for Neighborhood Technology, a nonprofi t organization based in Chicago. From 1995-2001, Karen worked for the Clinton Administration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Karen is also a very active volunteer for numerous organizations. Currently, she serves as a board member for Chicago Public Art Group, the Openbook Program and is a founding board member for City Parks Alliance. Her academic credentials include a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University. |
